Painting From The Masters - Indoor Oil Workshop

March 3 - 4, 2012. 2 Days ~ 9:00am-3:30pm

David will instruct an indoor workshop based on observing and utilizing the technique of Rockport Art Association's finest painters, among them: Aldro T. Hibbard, N.A., Anthony Thieme, Marguerite Pearson, and W. Lester Stevens, N.A. Copying from the masters is a time-honored tradition in the art world, as students use their observational skills to emulate the methods of those artists who have gone before. Students will find that when they study how successful artists have created their canvases, their own work will benefit from that acquired knowledge.

PLEIN AIR SATURDAY - every Saturday, weather permitting - at the Cox Reservation, Essex County Greenbelt, off Rt. 133, Essex, MA. Drop in class; no sign up necessary. Tuition $20.00 per student per day. Hours: 9:30 through 4:30.

Impressionist Seeing, 1-day outdoor oil painting class, 9 am – 2 pm

Curtis will instruct a plein air landscape class for the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Center for the Arts, Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, 333 Nahanton Street, Newton, MA 02459.

Highlights of the class will be understanding composition, hitting the correct color note and learning to see the landscape in an impressionist manner. He will circulate through the class to give individual critiques.

Gardens & Flowers is 3-day outdoor oil painting workshop for students of all levels. Color, values and composition will be stressed, as will learning to see your subject. Mornings will be spent on individual flower studies and in the afternoons we will work on one painting for 3 days. A set of my Field Notes is included in the tuition. BankGloucester will host an exhibition of recent works by Gloucester resident and painter, David P. Curtis. An opening reception will be held, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the bank lobby at 160 Main Street, Gloucester.

Works on view include local landscapes. Light refreshments.
